Movie Misconceptions

Just how wrong are you about movies? Click HERE and find out! I'm just glad that someone is clearing up the misconception that "Superman Returns" was a bomb- not only did it make more $$ than "Batman Begins"- it was a much better movie with a much hotter star!!! There, I said it!

Other misconceptions debunked:

"A Christmas Story" was an instant classic.
Traditionally drawn animation is not as profitable as CGI.
A "Cliff and Kendall" movie would be cost prohibitive based on the catering budget alone.

Well, that last one's probably true.

Pretend You're a Kid (Easy for Some, Easier for Others)

"Christmas is the time when we should be thinking of others." - Pee-wee Herman

If you really want to feel lit up like a Christmas tree, you should do at least one thing this season that is for someone you don't even know. And luckily there are probably lots of folks you've already passed in front of stores that are collecting change and toys- so it can be easy!

Now, giving change is cool because of that beautiful clinking-clanking sound it makes, but what I find even more fun is giving TOYS. Because of my intensely nerdy leanings I still like toys, but as a man in his early late middle age, there are only a few socially acceptable times when I can buy them. (Note to my nieces and nephews: Please stop aging at or below 12, thanks).

So every Christmas I pretend that I am a kid and buy a couple Toys for Tots that I would want or would've wanted as a kid. The pretending part is easy, because odds are I just watched "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

Now this year:
For the Boys:

I have no idea what "Imaginext" is, but there were two Batman villains there for sale with that emblazoned upon their packages. There were several Mr. Freeze's left but I snagged the last Joker. (Dear Tot, You're welcome). I also picked up an R2-D2 not because I really care about "Star Wars," but I enjoy the fact that the whole phenomenon started in the 70's and kids really still get into it today.

For the Girls:

Sadly, there was nothing in any of the pink aisles with Zac Efron on it, so I went Barbie. I would've gone Disney Princess, but they were more expensive and I am slightly put off by the fact that almost every Ariel doll is the human version and not the mermaid. I still bought my niece an Ariel baby doll, but kind of wish she'd had fins. Oh well. Now this Barbie is a ballerina, but I really bought her because she had the most complicated hairstyle. And well, this Ken (or whatever his name is- he's not specifically labeled Ken, so I'll just call him "Half-Naked Stud"), I got "Half-Naked Stud" because he had actual hair. And it's all gelled into a Bieber/Degeneres kind of style.

Merry Christmas!!! Oh and if you REALLY want to feel lit up like a Christmas tree- you should buy some Toys for Tots while you're drunk.

Holy Old Age, Batman!

oh holy Lord!!! Tim Burton's amazing "Batman" turned 20 just over a week ago!! It changed how we think of blockbusters, movie villains, and home video- and it totally ruled my life the summer I was 7 years old- and did so until the summer I was 10 years old- when "Batman Returns" came out.

Holy Flurking Shnit I am ancient!!! But what a ride! (The movie, not my life).

Shocking iPod News!!!!!

Read THIS article to hear how your iPod may be dangerous to your health!! Also how it can be like living in the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"!! Although I prefer the book- sorry Nicholson fanatics!! I own "About Schmidt" and owe much of my childhood to his portrayal of the Joker!! Sorry for all the double exclamation points!!! I'm just very excited about this blog post.

OMG--- I just realized that in the first sentence of this paragraph I wrote "Read this article to hear . . ." You hear with your ears!!!! Stupid!! God, I am so dumb!!

Fiber Caper!!

Our loyal listeners will know we love some fiber bars- but have you seen the new knock off kind?? They may be tainted like the Joker's brand X merchandise in the original (and best) Batman movie from 1989.

Smilex!

Haven't tasted them yet, but they got the box down so well- the foodstuffs themselves are really not so important.

I used to have this poster in my bedroom as a child! Tidbit!

Sweet Little Criminal

I believe it was last week when this little guy (okay, not so little: he's 20) snuck into a movie theater late one night dressed as The Joker and tried to steal a bunch of "Dark Knight" stuff. He was arrested (hence the mugshot) but hopefully will get away with a slap on his purple sleeved wrist. Because its sort of cute right? I mean some might say pathetic, but I say it's kinda sweet.

He just loved the movie so much, and probably didn't want to go to Wal-Mart or eBay where he could easily get Batman junk. My heart goes out to him, for some reason. He's a comic book store guy, a poindexter, an N-E-R-D. Let's let him off. Poor thing. Just keep him away from explosive laden ferries!

Bale Balks at Boy Wonder Bit

From IMDB:

Batman star Christian Bale has declared he will quit the comic book movie franchise if producers ever decide to reintroduce the caped crusader's sidekick Robin.

Bale took on the role of the legendary action hero in 2005's Batman Begins and will be seen again in The Dark Knight, which is due for release later this month. But the actor is hoping that the character of Robin is not brought back into any of future Batman movies - because he will resign in protest.

He says, "If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I'll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work."

Great news!

Poll Results!

Wow- look at the diversity we achieve here. We can all come together even though some of us are Dark Knights, and some of us are Sex and the City. And even a few of us are Love Gurus. Or maybe they're just Justin Timberlakes in their underwear. Whatever, enjoy the poll results for the week ending June 6, 2008!

Phones are MAD/DUMB Expensive, Yo!

Okay so I just went to look at cellphone prices and my eyes rolled back in my head and my tongue sprang from my mouth and my body made a "Cayooga" sound. Them bitches cost mad dollahs y'all! Re: HUNDREDZZZZ of $$$$$$!

So herewith are the phones worth what the people at $pr!n# are asking:

A) Up top you see the legendary red Bat phone. Batman used it. Commisioner Gordon used it. Maybe Alfred made long distance calls on it while Batman and his ward, Robin, were out kicking henchmen in the face. All in all I would pay to use it. Plus it's red!

B&C) Okay I would never be able to physically pass up the cell phone with all the Peanuts characters on it. I just wouldn't. Call it a fault if you will, but I know me. I'd be screening my calls for Blockheads for years with that sucker. And okay, if you MUST know- I have this other phone. And I'd be talking to you RIGHT NOW on it, if it only worked. But it is a beautiful chotchke.

D) Yeah yeah yeah. Worth it.

E) At first I couldn't find a picture of the phone that rich people use so I drew it from memory and I have to say I did pretty well. This phone was always the one I was drawn to as a kid when I would be in a store's phone department. Which was ALL THE TIME. Anyway, along with the Mickey Mouse phone it was the one I always wished I had. I dreamed of the day when I would be old and affluent enought to buy this phone!! And then landlines had to go and become obsolete. Good grief.
