Big TV Week!

It's a happening week on TV here in the middle of this boiling summer!

Tonight on Discovery we've got my husband Jake Gyllenhaal on "Man Vs. Wild"- where he eats worms and . . . bathes in streams? (Fingers Crossed)

And then on Wednesday the 13th we must all tune in to see "Roseanne's Nuts" on Lifetime! It's the Domestic Goddess' new reality show about her nut farm in Hawaii. Click HERE to read a great interview with the former Lanford resident. Kendall, could this be our new "D-List"? Shh . . . don't tell Kathy!

And then on Thursday at midnight, finally a reason to leave the house: HARRY POTTER 7 part 2!!!

New Muppet Movie Trailer!

Exclamation Point

Go HERE to watch the trailer! We'll need the Muppets to dry our tears from watching "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2"! Watch that trailer HERE! (or an even better HP7.2 trailer HERE. I'm judging it "better" because I cried more during that second one.)

Elaborate Cakes!

Do you know how much I love elaborate cakes? Imagine a really huge elaborate cake in the shape of the Earth but the size of the sun. That much!!

So imagine my delight when I found THIS website! It's dedicated to food that's dedicated to people's various pop culture obsessions. It's fun to "surf" around and imagine if I had a million dollars, what kind of cake would I get? Probably a cake in the shape of Mrs. Potterbutter Butterchurn.

Leftovers from 4/20

Look, it's Ron Weasley on break from Hogwarts! How best to relax after those stringent O.W.L.'s?!?!

By "smoking the bong" as Kendall would say! Don't be deceived, this might not even be illegal- it could be salvia or he could have a medical marijuana prescription! But does anyone even care anymore? I like the rumor that this was taken at a big reefer-smokin' after party for the Harry Potter movies!! I wonder if there's a spell to make you aware?

I bet they binged on pumpkin pasties and chocolate frogs afterwards!!!!

I can't wait for July 15th (Part Two!)

UPDATE: I didn't make it! I wept for Dobby . . . again!! TOO SAD!

Harry Potter Wants Gays to Not Kill Selves

Lil' Daniel Radcliffe has apparently just filmed a PSA for 'The Trevor Project'- an organization that aims to decrease suicide of gay teenagers. I think this is obviously great and am sad it will probably not air on network television because the only ads they will run are pro-life spots where football players tackle their moms or "my wife always be naggin' and sucking the life out of me!!" car commercials.

I would add a misanthropic comment about me personally wanting to die and claim my golden chair in the golden podcast booth of glory that's awaiting me in the sweet by and by for our future show "Cliff and Kendall: Cloud to Cloud" (which is currently running in Heaven- this week's guest hosts are Tennessee Williams and Doubting Thomas, with special guest Shari Lewis & Lambchop) but such a comment would seem out of place and in the poorest of taste.

Read about the PSA HERE! To call and leave voicemail on another kind of hotline: 818-308-4FAT (The Cliff and Kendall Hotline! We can't be bothered to answer though, so just say your peace and hang up. We love you! Don't kill yourselves! Our show and your heart will go on & on!)

Harry Potter is REAL!

. . . or will be at least, whenever this part of Universal Studios Orlando opens up!

Click HERE to visit a gallery of several "concept images" of what the attraction will look like. Even though most of the pictures are of gift shops and Great Hall type restaurants, I don't care!!! It looks great- Kendall, when are we going?

Harry: "Wait for it . . ."

What are you going TO DO?????

We now have to wait until next JULY for the sixth Harry Potter movie! It's awful, it's sad! But at least I have more time to re-read the book- and then forget about it so it doesn't ruin my movie experience.

Oh well, you can always listen to our Olympic Podcast which is up now! Listen and I promise you will understand the photo below!

The Power of Failure and Imagination

Recently Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling delivered the commencement address to a class of graduating Harvard students. As one would expect, it was magical (ha!). She spoke of the power of failure (it was during her years of poverty that she knew she had no place to go but up), and the power of imagination (not the imagination of wizards and muggles per se, but the ability we have as humans to empathize with our brothers, and then imagine a better world for us all, and then work towards building that world).

A couple of excerpts:

"Given a time machine or a Time Turner, I would tell my 21-year-old self that personal happiness lies in knowing that life is not a check-list of acquisition or achievement. Your qualifications, your CV, are not your life, though you will meet many people of my age and older who confuse the two. Life is difficult, and complicated, and beyond anyone’s total control, and the humility to know that will enable you to survive its vicissitudes (ups and downs)."

"I am nearly finished. I have one last hope for you, which is something that I already had at 21. The friends with whom I sat on graduation day have been my friends for life. They are my children’s godparents, the people to whom I’ve been able to turn in times of trouble, friends who have been kind enough not to sue me when I’ve used their names for Death Eaters. At our graduation we were bound by enormous affection, by our shared experience of a time that could never come again, and, of course, by the knowledge that we held certain photographic evidence that would be exceptionally valuable if any of us ran for Prime Minister. "

5 Months til Harry

As "Sex and the City" mania subsides, it's only fitting that we should look ahead to other upcoming films that may hold some of the enthusiasm Carrie and Co. created.

The biggest event for Kendall and I will surely be this November's release of "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince." Above is one of the images from the upcoming film, currently causing a sensation amongst Muggles. But what is Harry looking at? Here are my guesses:

a) magical socks
b) invisibility underwear
c) Ginny's underwear
d) Ron's underwear
d) magical glasses cleaner
e) magical facial cleanser

"Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" opens November 21, 2008.

Drink up y'all

Did you know today marks the 75th anniversary of the end of Prohibition?? Now, that unfortunate era was born from the Anti-Saloon League, many of whom simply wanted America to drink products they had a financial share in. But Seven point Five decades ago, then President FDR took a stand (ahem) and said a big F-U to the Anti-Salooners and re-instated drinking as an acceptable national past time.

So in honor of this most amazing turn of events I bring to you: Cliff and Kendall's favorite alcoholic drinks.

Kendall: The man loves his Jack and Coke

Born in Tennessee, this firey devil drink will burn your gullet and warm your insides and more importantly FUCK YOU UP. A southern drink through and through- JD from TN and Coca-Cola brewed right in Atlanta, you can't help but imagine yourself somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon with one in hand.

Honorable Mention: Butter beer

Mix a shot (or two, it's plenty tasty) Buttershots schnapps with Cream Soda and you've got a magical drink fitting for muggles everywhere. While not as intoxicating as some other cocktails, Butter beer more than makes up for it in palatability. Tastes so good you'll drink enough to make any household broom into a Nimbus 2000.

Cliff: Long Island Iced Tea can't be beat!

Now residing in the north I see the true beauty of sitting on a southern front porch with a glass of sweet tea in hand watching the sun go down behind a field of cotton. But failing that, the next best thing is sitting in a bar getting super shit-faced with a Long Island Iced Tea. Filled with enough different liquors to knock a less seasoned drinker right on their ass, the LIIC is guaranteed to make even the heaviest boozer totally tipsy (and likelier still: flat out drunk) by the second round.

Honorable mentions: Gin and anything; Butter beer (see above delicousness and Harry Potter connection; and a very cheap Lite Beer (except Bud Light which is just making Geezer and Presidential hopeful John McCain richer) low in calories, lower in taste, usually low in price- drink enough and you'll be low in troubles, cares, and inhibitions.

Drink up, America!!
