Memento Memo

It just occurred to me that if Kendall and I ever needed to make notes on our bodies . . . well, screw notes- we'd have room for the entire text of "Ulysses."*

*"Ulysses" is a really long book** written by James Joyce. It centers on a single day (June 16, 1904***) in the life of two Dublin men.

*Here is a real photo of Marilyn Monroe herself reading "Ulysses!" How do I know it's real? It popped up 2 dozen times in my Google image search for "Ulysses."

**Okay it's not "Under the Dome" long, but still!

***Did you know that "Ulysses" has its own holiday? It's true! June 16th is known as Bloomsday, named after a "Ulysses" character, and is a celebration of all things James Joyce. It is observed in Dublin and elsewhere around the globe.

Frankenstein's Moon

Did you know scientists have long doubted Mary Shelley's account of what drove her to write the novel "Frankenstein"? Why do scientists give a shit? I don't know- but click HERE and read all bout it!

Apparently, other scientists are now disputing this! They agree that maybe MS was awakened in the night by a shining full moon and then she wrote that book. Although, I thought she was dared to write the book? Who knows? Who cares? I read that book in 8th grade and hated it so violently that I actually burned it after the class was over. I BURNED it. True story.

I was in 8th grade- my brain wasn't fully formed. I still like Frankenstein (the movie monster) though!

David Sedaris Movie Coming!

Read THIS article to see the details, but someone is finally going to film one of David Sedaris' immensely popular tales- one I can't recall, but it's named "C.O.G." from (my favorite) Naked.

Maybe for a sequel they could do the story where he went to a nudist colony! And Mr. Gyllenhaal could play David Sedaris!!! (Where's the Facebook group to support this!?!??)

Adorable Group of Curmudgeons Still Oppose Books

Click HERE to read the article that addresses the time honored Patriotic duty that some good ol' Americans still carry out every day!! That duty: sending letters to the library to let those free-wheelin' card catalog types know that them books on the shelves are bad for the kids!!!

Now- I (like one or two other people out there) count "The Catcher in the Rye" as one of my favorite books- so it's nice to see that people are still getting riled up over it in this age of naked phone pictures and Pokemon.

Also- on the list, something called "ttyl" which is a book written entirely in TEXT messages! (Really!) The "Twilight" Series (which I would oppose for the LACK of sparkly disco sticks, which is what we really all want). And a book called "The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things" which is surprisingly NOT a Cliff and Kendall auto-biography.

Harry Potter is REAL!

. . . or will be at least, whenever this part of Universal Studios Orlando opens up!

Click HERE to visit a gallery of several "concept images" of what the attraction will look like. Even though most of the pictures are of gift shops and Great Hall type restaurants, I don't care!!! It looks great- Kendall, when are we going?

Too Much Twilight!

Now I am in favor of Robert Pattinson's big mop of greasy hair just like all the other girls I'm in sixth grade with- BUT! This "Wuthering Heights" tie-in is too much! Must classic literature be sold upon the basis of these (watch out) not very good books???

Now in the interest of fairness and transparency, I will admit I've never read "Wuthering Heights"- but I did read "Twilight" and . . . didn't care for it! It wasn't horrible- I just read through 400 pages where NOTHING happened and even though I had another 100 pages left I found I couldn't possibly care less what happened to these people. No offense!

Now I do like vampires well enough, and maybe I didn't care for "Twilight" because I already had a vampire series to read: Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse books (the basis for HBO's 'True Blood')- which, I will have you know, I read BEFORE they became a show. I bought the first book "Dead Until Dark" from an old dude selling paperbacks on a card table outside Walgreen's beneath the Astoria-Ditmars subway stop in Queens. I believe I paid $1.25 for it.
Now I've gotten this out of my system. Is everybody as ready for Halloween as I am? All this vampire chatter has me excited!

Anderson Cooper's Smutty Legacy

Did you know Anderson Cooper's mom has written a trashy new novel full of people and vegetables?? Well- she has!!

Young Blue Eyes is the son of some rich lady named Vanderbilt and she has written a new novel on par with something that normally begins with "Dear Penthouse, . . ."

Click HERE to check out the dreck!  Anderson's 85 year old mother's book is called "Obsession: An Erotic Tale."
